The MS-10 is the last box on the bass chain: weight at 50 Hz you feel in the gut, wrapped in Class-A tube warmth. A tuned GUT bell drives a triode stage whose supply sags and blooms with a held bass note, output iron saturates only where a transformer really does — in the bass — and the MEAT knob is the console send trick in one control: a vari-mu compressor that hears nothing but the gut band and tucks its squashed copy back under the dry signal.

FREQ tunes the weight from 35 to 80 Hz, FLOOR picks an 18 or 30 Hz foundation, HEAT is level-compensated so it changes the meat rather than the volume, and MIX is delay-aligned for parallel use. The whole nonlinear chain runs 4x oversampled.

About Meat Shop

The MS-10 does one job: weight at 50 Hz you feel in the gut, wrapped in Class-A tube warmth. GUT is a tuned bell placed before the tube, so the frequencies you ask for more of are exactly the ones that drive the triode.

The signal splits at 180 Hz. The low band runs into a Class-A triode stage — second harmonic first, an operating point that drifts with the playing, and a power supply that sags up to 3.5 dB under a held bass note. That push-then-bloom is the thing you feel in the chest, and those even harmonics are what small speakers translate as weight.

Both bands recombine through output iron — flux-based transformer saturation borrowed from our tape engine, which distorts in the bass and stays clean on top. Exactly this box's job description.

Key features

GUT and FREQ. Up to +14 dB of weight, tunable from 35 to 80 Hz. 50 is the number on the box.

HEAT. Class-A triode drive, 0 to +30 dB — and level-compensated by construction, so the knob changes the meat, not the volume.

MEAT. The console send trick in one knob: a vari-mu compressor that hears only the gut band and returns its squashed copy in parallel under the dry signal. The deep end comes forward contained; nothing at mud height is touched.

FLOOR. SUB (18 Hz) or TIGHT (30 Hz) high-pass under everything.

Delay-aligned MIX. Parallel weight that never comb-filters.

A VU that means it. Real 300 ms ballistics, 0 VU at −18 dBFS, a latched clip lamp in the bezel — and the tube jewel, idling at a deep ember and breathing with the sag.

The whole nonlinear chain runs at 4x oversampling, and bypass is ramped, click-free and host-linked.

Quickstart tips

Start with GUT at 3 and leave FREQ at 50. That's the sound on the box. Move FREQ down for room-shaking dub, up toward 80 for punchy weight that reads on small speakers.

Bring HEAT up until the jewel breathes. It's level-compensated, so trust your ears, not the volume — when the bloom matches the bass line's phrasing, stop.

MEAT is for the note that disappears. If the low end ducks in and out of the mix, MEAT levels the gut band and tucks it back under the dry signal — forward and contained at once.

Pick FLOOR for the destination. SUB for systems that reproduce 18 Hz; TIGHT for everything that doesn't. TIGHT also cleans up sloppy room rumble before it hits the tube.

Watch the fly. When the needle rides past the fly on the dial, you're into the red for a reason — pull OUTPUT down and let the iron do the last bit.
