Coil

Spring Reverberator

Why a spring sounds like a spring

Coil is a spring reverb built from the physics of the tank itself. The waves in a coiled spring travel faster at high frequencies than low, so every echo arrives as a little downward chirp — that drip is the spring sound, and Coil builds it for real. Seven tanks, from drippy valve-driven surf pan to dark studio twin-tank to a six-spring flagship no factory ever built, with the drip, the tension and the boing each under its own dial.

About Coil

A spring reverb is a coil of wire with a transducer at each end — and below its transition frequency, the waves in that coil are dispersive: the highs travel faster than the lows. Twang a spring and every echo arrives as a little downward chirp. That drip is the spring sound, and it is the thing most digital springs approximate instead of building.

Coil builds it. Every spring is a feedback loop carrying a cascade of up to 160 allpass filters shaped like the physics, so the chirp is real — and because it is real, it has dials. Decay reaches from 0.2 to 20 seconds, far past any hardware damper. Drip takes the dispersion from zero to cartoon. Tension retunes the whole pan. And the boing — the thump every hardware pan added whether you wanted it or not — is finally a knob.

Key features

Seven tanks. Surf Twin, Trio, Vienna, Hex, Brick, Dub Box and Vault — from drippy valve-driven surf pan to dark studio twin-tank to a six-spring flagship no factory ever built. Level-matched by measurement, so switching compares character, not loudness.

Decay, 0.2 to 20 seconds. Calibrated — 2 on the dial measures two seconds.

Drip, Tension and Boing. The spring signature, the coil tightness and the longitudinal thump, each under its own dial.

SHAKE. Kick the pan and let the springs crash — the classic spring-tank stunt, on an automatable key.

True stereo. Two complete detuned spring banks, no widener anywhere in the path.

The studio bar. Presets, A/B comparison, undo and redo, freeze, ducking, and a panel that resizes without losing a pixel.

Quickstart tips

Pick the tank first — it sets the character more than any knob does. Surf Twin is the drippy classic; Vienna is the dark, polite one; Vault is the hi-fi flagship.

Keep bass out of the springs. Raise Low Cut to 150–250 Hz before touching anything else — it is the single biggest improvement to any spring sound.

Then set Decay by feel. Springs live around 1.5–3 seconds; past that it becomes an effect rather than a space, which is sometimes exactly the point.

And hit SHAKE at least once. You were going to anyway.

More details

Is there a free trial?

Yes — 14 days, fully featured, from the first time the plugin loads. Every tank, every control, no interruptions and no signup. When the trial ends, audio passes through dry until a license is entered, so your sessions are never damaged.

Do I own this plugin forever?

Yes. It's a one-off purchase, not a subscription, and there's nothing to renew. Updates to a plugin you own are free — download the current installer and run it over the top.

Every plugin is sold on its own, so you can buy just the one you want.

How many computers can I install it on?

Your license works on all machines you personally own — studio desktop, laptop, spares. Enter the same key on each; there's nothing to deactivate and no activation server, so a machine dying never costs you a slot.

How do I get my download?

Your download link and license key are in the order confirmation email sent at purchase. Run the installer, open Coil, click the notice on the black band, paste the key — done.

Can't find the email? Check spam, then contact us and we'll resend it.

Can I run it offline?

Yes — after activation. Entering your license key needs an internet connection once; from then on the plugin runs fully offline and doesn't phone home.
