About Palette

Palette is four effect modules in one plugin — Tone, Motion, Space and Texture — each holding five algorithms, and each able to sit anywhere in the chain. Twenty effects, and the order is yours to set.

That ordering is the instrument. The same four effects give completely different results depending on what feeds what: drive into delay is not the same device as delay into drive. Drag the modules around and the signal path changes with them.

Two knobs per module keep it playable rather than fiddly — an Amount and a Shape control whose meaning changes with the algorithm, with a secondary layer underneath when you want it. A global drift generator runs across the whole chain, so nothing sits perfectly still.

Key features

Tone. Drive, Preamp, Fuzz, Resonate and Swell — saturation and harmonic character, from a gentle push to something that rebuilds the signal.

Motion. Double, Vibrato, Phaser, Tremolo and Shifter — modulation, from subtle thickening to outright pitch movement.

Space. Bucket, Tape, Hall, Scatter and Reverse — delay and reverb, including a bucket-brigade voice and a reverse setting.

Texture. Filter, Squash, Warble, Crush and Static — filtering, compression, and the noisier end of the box.

Rearrangeable modules. Drag any module to any position; the chain follows.

Global drift. A drift generator across the whole unit, with Mix, Input and Output alongside it, so the effect can be blended rather than committed to.

Quickstart tips

Start with one module on. Twenty effects at once is a mess. Switch the other three off, find a sound you like, then bring the next one in.

Then change the order. Before reaching for a different algorithm, try moving the module you already have. Tone before Space is a driven sound in a room; Space before Tone is a room being driven — different results from identical settings.

Amount is the one to ride. Each module's Amount knob is its intensity. Set Shape for the flavour, then use Amount to decide how much of it you want.

Use Drift sparingly. A little keeps the chain from sounding static. A lot makes everything seasick — which is sometimes the point, but rarely on a mix.

Blend with Mix. The global Mix control lets you sit the whole processed chain behind the dry signal, which is usually where the more extreme settings actually work.

More details

Do I own this plugin forever?

Yes. It's a one-off purchase, not a subscription, and there's nothing to renew. Updates to a plugin you own are free — download the current installer and run it over the top.

Every plugin is sold on its own, so you can buy just the one you want. If you'd rather have all of them, the Everything Bundle collects the whole line for 30% less than buying them separately.

How many computers can I install it on?

Each license can be active on all machines you personally own you own — a studio desktop, a laptop and a couple of spares. Moving to a new computer? Deactivate the plugin on the old one and the seat frees up; if that machine is gone, contact us and we'll release it.

A purchase covers you, not a studio full of people. If colleagues need it, they need their own copy — that's what keeps a small company like this able to keep building plugins.

How do I get my download?

Your download link is in the order confirmation email sent at purchase, and in your account under Order history.

Your license key is in the same email. Run the installer, open the plugin, enter the key once and you're done — one key activates up to 4 of your machines.

Can't find the email? Check spam, then search for "Desert Moon Audio". If it still isn't there, get in touch with the address you ordered with and we'll resend it.

Can I run it offline?

Yes — after activation. Entering your license key needs an internet connection once; from then on the plugin runs fully offline and doesn't phone home.

If a studio machine never goes online, get in touch and we'll sort out an activation for it.
