Where it goes

Four of the places it lives, each with a demo above.

  • Acoustic guitar

A gold-foil plate at two seconds puts a strummed guitar in a room without washing it out.

    Hear it
  • Drums

A short plate on a snare, ducked under the hit, is the sound of a hundred records.

    Hear it
  • Piano

Big steel under a piano: long, bright and even.

    Hear it
  • Vocals

The plate that sits behind a vocal: pre-delay for clarity, a filter to keep the lows clean.

About Plate Daddy

A real plate reverb is a thin steel sheet under tension, and bending waves in steel are dispersive — their speed rises with frequency. Strike the plate and the highs arrive before the lows. That upward chirp is the plate signature, and it is the thing most digital plates leave out: an ordinary feedback delay network has flat group delay, so it sounds like reverb rather than like a plate.

Plate Daddy reproduces it directly. The tank is a 16-line network in which every delay line carries a cascade of allpass filters, holding the low end back and letting the top run ahead. The Dispersion control scales that behaviour — and at zero the unit collapses into an ordinary, perfectly good reverb, which is a useful thing to hear once.

Seven plates, each with its own measured amount of dispersion, from Gold Foil at the subtle end to Chrome at the most pronounced.

Key features

  • Plate Daddy – Seven plates

    Seven plates

Big Steel, Steel SS, Gold Foil, Eco, Bronze, Pocket and Chrome — each a different tension and material, and each with its own dispersion character.

  • Plate Daddy – Decay, 0.15 to 30 seconds

    Decay, 0.15 to 30 seconds

From a tight ambience to something that outlasts the track.

  • Plate Daddy – Front panel

    Front panel

Decay, Pre-Delay, Modulation, Drive, Low Cut, High Cut, Mix and Output — the eight controls a plate is actually driven with — plus the plate selector and Freeze.

  • Plate Daddy – Tweak page

    Tweak page

Size, Dispersion, Diffusion, Low Decay, High Damp, Mod Rate, Bass, Treble, Width and Duck, for when the front panel is not enough.

  • Plate Daddy – Freeze

    Freeze

Holds the tank indefinitely — the tail becomes a pad.

  • Plate Daddy – Duck

    Duck

Pulls the reverb down while the source is playing and lets it back up in the gaps, so a vocal stays in front of its own tail.

Plate Daddy panel, with its controls numbered

The panel at a glance

  1. Plate selector Seven plates on a detented slide, each a different tension and material with its own dispersion.
  2. Decay Mid-band RT60 calibrated in seconds, 0.15 to 30: from tight ambience to something that outlasts the track.
  3. Pre-Delay The gap before the plate.
  4. Modulation Movement inside the plate.
  5. Filter Low and high cut on the send, ahead of the plate.
  6. Drive How hard the plate is driven, with Input, Mix and Output alongside.
  7. Mix Dry against plate.
  8. Tweak The second page: size, dispersion, diffusion, damping, width and duck.
  9. Freeze Holds the tank open indefinitely: the tail becomes a pad.
  10. Meters Input and output, side by side.

More details

Do I own this plugin forever?

Yes. It's a one-off purchase, not a subscription, and there's nothing to renew. Updates to a plugin you own are free — download the current installer and run it over the top.

Every plugin is sold on its own, so you can buy just the one you want. If you'd rather have all of them, the Everything Bundle collects the whole line for 30% less than buying them separately.

How many computers can I install it on?

Each license covers up to 4 computers you personally own — a studio desktop, a laptop and a couple of spares. Moving to a new computer? Choose Deactivate This Machine in the plugin's preset menu on the old one and the seat frees up instantly; if that machine is gone for good, contact us and we'll release it.

A purchase covers you, not a studio full of people. If colleagues need it, they need their own copy — that's what keeps a small company like this able to keep building plugins.

How do I get my download?

Your download link is in the order confirmation email sent at purchase, and in your account under Order history.

Your license key is in the same email. Run the installer, open the plugin, enter the key once and you're done — one key activates up to 4 of your machines.

Can't find the email? Check spam, then search for "Desert Moon Audio". If it still isn't there, get in touch with the address you ordered with and we'll resend it.

Can I run it offline?

Yes — after activation. Entering your license key needs an internet connection once; from then on it works offline — the only other time it goes online is a once-a-day check for a newer version.

If a studio machine never goes online, get in touch and we'll sort out an activation for it.
