Push Pull

Program Equalizer

Boost and cut the same bass at once — the trick only a passive network can do

Push Pull is a passive program EQ plugin for Mac and PC: a passive filter network through a push-pull tube stage, so you can boost and cut the same bass at once.

Where it goes

Four of the places it lives, each with a demo above.

  • Mix bus

Boost and cut the same low frequency across a mix and the bass gets tighter and bigger at once.

    Hear it
  • Kick

30 CPS boost with some attenuation, and the kick gains weight without mud.

    Hear it
  • Bass

A touch of 60 CPS and some IRON, and a DI bass sounds like it went through a console.

  • Vocals

The high boost at 10 kcs, broad bandwidth, is air without edge.

About Push Pull

Push Pull is a program equalizer: a passive filter network that can only take away, a push-pull tube amplifier that makes the loss back, and an output transformer that gives the low end its weight. That order is the whole character. Because the network is passive, boosting and attenuating the same low frequency at once doesn't cancel — the two curves have different corners, so you get a lift with a dip just above it, and a bottom end that reads as bigger without turning muddy.

None of it is approximated with digital filters. The potentiometers, the switched capacitors, the tapped inductor and the bandwidth resistor are entered as a circuit and solved as a circuit every time you move a control — twelve unknowns, re-solved and re-discretised on the fly. Every interaction of a real passive network falls out for free: the low-end trick, the high boost and cut sharing a node, the bandwidth control changing the height of the peak as it changes the width. Component values were fitted to swept measurements to within 0.13 dB across 63 settings.

The amplifier and the iron are modelled with the same care. The tube stage's harmonic levels are calibrated too, and the transformer saturates on flux rather than voltage — which is why it distorts in the bass and stays clean on top, exactly as a real push-pull stage does.

Key features

  • Push Pull – The passive network, solved as a circuit

The passive network, solved as a circuit

Not a filter approximation — the real topology, re-solved whenever a control moves. Fitted to 0.13 dB rms over 63 swept settings.

  • Push Pull – The low-end trick, for free

    The low-end trick, for free

Boost and attenuate the same frequency together and you get a lift with a dip just above it, because the circuit behaves like the circuit — not because someone drew that curve in.

  • Push Pull – IRON

    IRON

Drives the push-pull tube stage harder while compensating the level, so you hear the harmonics change and not just the volume. A flux meter shows the transformer working.

  • Push Pull – STEPLESS

    STEPLESS

The frequency levers sweep continuously instead of clicking between fixed positions — component values interpolate in log frequency, half a step past each end. A control fixed-position EQs don't give you.

  • Push Pull – STEREO, DUAL or M/S

    STEREO, DUAL or M/S

One set of controls for both channels, or a complete second set for the right or the side signal, with COPY to duplicate what you've dialled in.

  • Push Pull – VINTAGE and NOISE

    VINTAGE and NOISE

Seeded component tolerances per channel and per instance, push-pull imbalance, and tube hiss and hum at about −80 dBFS — for when you want the box to be a specific box.

  • Push Pull – Auto Gain, MIX and oversampling

    Auto Gain, MIX and oversampling

Loudness-matched bypass comparisons, a delay-aligned parallel blend, and 1× to 8× oversampling as a machine preference rather than something buried in presets.

  • Push Pull – An editable response display

    An editable response display

Drag the low shelf, the high peak and the high shelf directly on the curve, over an input and output spectrum analyser.

Push Pull panel, with its controls numbered

The panel at a glance

  1. Low Boost Shelf lift at the CPS frequency. Boost and cut the same frequency together for the famous lift with a dip above it.
  2. Low Atten Shelf cut, beginning higher than the boost.
  3. High Boost Peak at the KCS frequency, 0 to 10.
  4. High Atten Shelf cut at the Atten Sel frequency.
  5. Atten Sel 5, 10 or 20 kc for the high attenuate.
  6. Bandwidth Width of the high boost, Sharp to Broad.
  7. Low Frequency 20, 30, 60 or 100 cps. Turn on Stepless and the levers sweep continuously.
  8. High Frequency 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12 or 16 kc.
  9. In EQ network in or out; the tube amplifier stays in.
  10. Power The host's bypass, with the pilot lamp.

More details

Is there a free trial?

Yes — 14 days, fully featured, from the first time the plugin loads. All three units, every control, no interruptions and no signup. When the trial ends, audio passes through dry until a license is entered, so your sessions always open.

Do I own this plugin forever?

Yes. It's a one-off purchase, not a subscription, and there's nothing to renew. Updates to a plugin you own are free — download the current installer and run it over the top.

Every plugin is sold on its own, so you can buy just the one you want.

How many computers can I install it on?

Your license covers up to 4 computers you personally own — studio desktop, laptop, spares. Enter the same key on each; the first activation on a machine takes one quick internet check; after that it works offline, apart from a once-a-day check for a newer version. Moving on from a computer? Deactivate This Machine in the plugin's preset menu hands the seat back, and if a machine dies before you can, just ask us.

How do I get my download?

Your download link and license key are in the order confirmation email sent at purchase. Run the installer, open Push Pull, click the trial notice on the panel, paste the key — done.

Can’t find the email? Check spam, then write to info@desertmoonaudio.com and we’ll resend it.

Can I run it offline?

Yes — after activation. Entering your license key needs an internet connection once; from then on it works offline — the only other time it goes online is a once-a-day check for a newer version.
